Exhibition by Coline Jourdan

Coline Jourdan is a photographer born in 1993, and a graduate of ENSA Dijon. Her projects question the presence of toxic substances in our environments. In 2018, she was awarded the Prix d'Impression Photographique by Ateliers Vortex. In 2019, she won the Impulsion grant from the city of Rouen. In 2020, she won the Nouvelles écritures Prize at the La Gacilly Photo Festival and was selected for the 1+2 Residency, where she will begin Soulever la poussière, for which she will receive the CNAP's Soutien à la photographie documentaire contemporaine in 2021. In 2022 she won the 50CC Air de Normandie grant. In 2023 her work was exhibited at Point Du Jour, BnF and C/0 in Berlin.

Exhibition by Marion Plumet

Marion Plumet is a visual artist who has been working for over 10 years now on the relationships of sexist domination and the resulting violence. In 2012, when the #MeToo wave had not yet passed, she organised an ‘exhibition campaign against rape’ and invited artists to take up the issue.

As she writes on her website, life stories and the things that construct them are the raw material of her artistic work. Exploring the objects and ideas of male domination, she transcends them and embodies them in her work: drawings, collages, installations, sculptures, performances, photographs, videos, etc.

A very small part of this artistic work will be exhibited on the exterior and interior walls of the UFR Lettres et Sciences humaines during the 17th CIRS.

Show abstract

During a technoid seance, the spirit of Monique Wittig - novelist, theorist, feminist and lesbian activist - is invoked. And a host of lesbian spirits come forward to tell their stories. From this plurality of narratives rises a “we” that gives heart and strength. This concert-ceremony converges on the opening of a dancefloor to which the audience is invited to celebrate the lesbian body in all its plurality.

Based on a collection of interviews with some twenty women, Monique es-tu là? is a powerful evocation of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Project abstract

This concert-performance is the result of a research-creation project, Représentations et Visibilités Lesbiennes, funded by the Brittany Region, which aims to bring together an art form - contemporary theater - and a science - social psychology. It focuses on representations of lesbianism, exploring the question of whether or not people of different generations experience their youth as lesbian.

Jessica Roumeur, author and actress with the La Divine Bouchère company, and Christèle Fraïssé, research professor in social psychology at LP3C-UBO, jointly conducted 22 semi-directive research interviews with lesbians aged between 20 and 75, from all socio-economic backgrounds.

These interviews provided the material both for the creation Monique es-tu là? and for a psychosocial analysis of the impact of heterosexism and heteronormativity on the self-constructions of French lesbians.

The project is described by Christèle Fraïssé and Jessica Roumeur, interviewed by Radio U's Pierre-Louis Leseul in this CORLAB podcast “La recherche autrement”:

We're offering you a guided tour (1h30) in the 'Rade de Brest' aboard the Brestoâ. Registration is free but booking is compulsory because the number of places is limited. You can register (at the registration desk) when you arrive until Wednesday 2pm.

Departure: 7.15pm from Quai Georges Lombard in Brest's Port de Commerce.

There are plenty of restaurants in the harbour to extend your evening. The harbour is within walking distance of the city centre (25 minutes from the university).

In Brest, the weather is fine several times a day, so don't forget to bring your ‘overcoat’ in case of cloudy or windy skies (le Petit Zef).

Enjoy !
